New York Dental Continuing Education (CE) Credits Requirement (Dentists, Hygienists, Assistants) in 2024

The following are the Continuing Education (CE) Credits requirement for Dental professionals in New York, USA in 2024.

Dentists

Dentists in New York must complete a specified number of continuing education credits to maintain their licensure, as mandated by the New York State Education Department (NYSED).

• Credit Requirements: Dentists must complete 60 CE credits triennially (every three years).
• Categories: These credits must include:
  • At least 18 hours in live, in-person courses.
  • 3 hours in infection control every four years.
  • 2 hours in child abuse identification and reporting (only required once).
  • 2 hours in the use of opioid antagonists for those who prescribe opioids.
  • The remaining credits can be earned through online courses, webinars, or self-study, provided they are approved by the Board.
• Documentation: Dentists must maintain detailed records of their CE activities and may be required to submit them to the NYSED during audits.

Dental Hygienists

Dental hygienists in New York must adhere to specific CE requirements set by the New York State Education Department (NYSED).

• Credit Requirements: Dental hygienists must complete 24 CE credits triennially.
• Categories: These credits must include:
  • 3 hours in infection control every four years.
  • 2 hours in child abuse identification and reporting (only required once).

Dental Assistants
